Wacky Nation is a book, it is a very stupid way of passing the time and it is also two very strange people, Sally Raynes and James Bamber.

We have spent the last three years researching and taking part in wacky events around Britain.  From Pea Throwing in Sussex to Clog Cobbing (what is that I hear you ask?) in Lancashire, Stone Skimming in Scotland to Nettle Eating in Dorset (yes, it did hurt). Over this time we have become a World Champion, a near World Champion, but more often than not, an absolute laughing stock. Over 170 mad, weird or stupid events held in the UK every year have so far been identified, and the number is increasing - just discovered a pantomime horse race in Birmingham and a dog show with a twist!

Our aim is to do anything once, no matter how hard or silly it is, even if that means carrying a 50 kg beer barrel up a hill (one skinny guy in training for 2009 - money bribes welcome!!) or juming off a bridge into a river in the middle of winter. One of our aims is to be world champion at as many of these events as possible and, who knows, maybe hold the record for most number of world championship disciplines.  If that fails, we will just look stupid!! Here is a small selection of what we have done:

Above left: Bamb in a tricky situation in  the shin kicking contest

Above right: Sal about to chuck her black puddings

Above left: Sal talking too much yet again!

Above right: Yep that is fear on my face as i prepare to plunge into freezing water in a very fetching orange number

Above left: Our first World Champion Title (sorry Wendy!)

Above right: Watch out - Sal is armed with a deadly eel

...and here are few more idiots, fools and people who just want to have fun...

and here's me at a stone skimming contest in Brighton, getting my feet far too wet, but looking very cool!
